SELL FOUNDATION NIGERIA ORGANIsES A STAKEHOLDERS ENGAGEMENT, TRAINING/ADVOCACY IN JALINGO, TARABA STATE

In a bid to promote environmental sustainability and community development in Taraba State, SELL Foundation Nigeria organized a one day stakeholder’s engagement on environmental policies and practices in Taraba State and also conducted three days training from the 28th January to 1st February, 2025.

The engagement/training which brought together participants from different Local communities, Government Agencies, private sectors, Civil Society Organizations and religious bodies focused on environmental policies and practices in Taraba State, social cohesion among families and sustainable production practices, using simplified climate smart methods of agriculture.
The event provided participants with the opportunity to share their experiences, challenges and collectively identify possible areas of collaborations.

A communiqué was also issued at the end of the engagement. Dr Josesp Gimba, Chairman Civil Society Organization in Jalingo was appointed to serve as chair of the forum formed.
In addition to the engagement, SELL also conducted the following activities:

TRAINING ON BRIQUETTES PRODUCTION/DISTRIBUTION OF CHARCOAL STOVE: SELL conducted training for selected women at Kpantinapo community in Jalingo on the production of briquettes. The training aimed at enabling the women to establish sustainable and environment friendly energy source of cooking which will serve as source of livelihood to the family. The women were also supported with start-up kits to commence small scale production of the briquettes. The team also distributed charcoal energy efficient stove to its volunteers as a means to promote care for the environment.

FAMILY COHESION: The training aimed to strengthen family relationships and promote social cohesion among families. The training equipped the couples with skills to manage conflicts, communicate effectively and also foster a supportive family environment. The training featured different activities including games as part of leisure activities.

CLIMATE SMART AGRICULTURE: The training aimed at addressing and improving livelihood of the participants through introducing them to a more sustainable production practices, using simplified climate smart methods of agriculture such as using climate adapted seeds, organic compost, organic fertilizer, and organic pesticides among others.

ADVOCACY VISIT: The team paid an advocacy visits to Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Taraba Environmental Protection Agency (TEPA), among others. The purpose of the advocacy is to establish and also consolidates on the already existing relationships.
COMMUNITY RISK ASSESSMENT: The team also conducted a community risk assessment to assess environmental risk factors in Kona village.

SELL RESOURCE TEAM FACILITATED WORKSHOP FOR ASPIRANT


SELL Resource team facilitated a workshop on Community Building of the SELL traditional unit and Child Safeguarding/protection for Aspirant from the congregation of Sons of Divine Love, (SDL) in Bauchi State.


The workshop which took place at the SELL Office aimed at empowering the participants with the skills on building a healthy community, fostering community development and protection of children.


The two days workshop which took place from the 19th to 20th February, 2025 provided them with the opportunity to explore different sessions of the community building and Child safeguarding units which includes:
  • Community dynamics
  • Exploring perspectives
