MAY 2025 ACTIVITIES REPORT
On May10th, the SRH Coordinator Patricia facilitated an SRH engagement to the youth of Chibavi community in Mzuzu. With an age patronage ranging from 16 to 24 the activity was held at St Benadette Hall. The youth were empowered with Sexual and Reproductive Health information on the challenges associated with physical and emotional changes as they are growing up including causes and prevention measures of cervical cancer and STIs as well as their sexual and reproductive rights. Assisted by youth leaders the workshop was a success.
On the 16th to 18th May some Resource Team members and mentors travelled to Mzambazi and Mpherembe communities for a stepdown workshop on the Justice unit.
On May 17th, SELL Programme mentor Deborah Phiri mentored Msuli Anglican community of Nkhata-Bay on the unit of Wisdom of Traditions unit.
SRH school outreach
On May 20th the SRH Coordinator accompanied by Ungweru Programs Manager and Elizabeth the intern engaged in open and empowering discussion on Empathy Building with Form 1 and 2 students from Chris Academy. This discussion aimed to break myths, end stigma, promote awareness, respect and enhance understanding on natural body changes of menstruation and wet dreams.
On the 21st of May the SRH Coordinator Patricia accompanied by Taonga had SRH outreach sessions at Luwinga and Zolozolo secondary schools where Form 1 and 2 students were empowered with the skill of Empathy Building to break myths, end stigma, promote awareness, respect and enhance understanding on natural body changes of menstruation and wet dreams.
The SRH Coordinator was at Zolozolo Secondary School on 27th of May engaging with a different stream of Form 1 students on the same discussion of Empathy Building to break myths, end stigma, promote awareness, respect and enhance understanding on natural body changes of menstruation and wet dreams.
On 28th of May, SRH outreach was extended to Form 1 students of Chibavi Secondary School. The outreach centered on the skill of Empathy Building to break myths, end stigma, promote awareness, respect and enhance understanding on natural body changes of menstruation and wet dreams.
On the 28th of May which was World Menstrual Hygiene Day, the SRH Coordinator attended a webinar organized by Girls Empowerment Network themed “Together for a Period-friendly World: Ending Period Poverty Through Awareness, Access and Advocacy”. This is crucial for the team’s programme development and outreach.
Catechist Training
The team was privileged to share about the SELL programme to 76 catechist in Nkhata-Bay on 28th of May.
The Resource Team led the 4th mentor’s training with the Catholic Community from 29th May to 1st June at Ungweru Organisation premises. The training centered on reflecting their journey as mentors allowing them to share their successes and failures. The mentors were empowered with Safeguarding, Sexual Reproductive Health and recycling notebook paper inputs to allow them serve with clear purpose in their communities.
