Meeting with Fr. Eugene of St. Francis de Sales

On the 1st of April, the YDU Team had a meeting with Fr. Eugene Enerst of the Francis De Cells to discuss a possible partnership with The unit since he is also serving the youths (Francilian youths).

Meeting with the Diocesan Youth Chaplain
On 3rd April, the YDU Team had a meeting with Father Benjamine Banda the Diocesan Youth Chaplain. The meeting was held with the agendas of….the Executive Director Samuel Phiri and the Projects Manager Noel Kumwenda were also present on this meeting.

Meeting with Mr. Kaunda Gondwe of University of Livingstonia (UNILIA)
On April 3, the patron for University of Livingstonia Catholic Students Organisation (CSO) Patron Mr Gondwe visited the Resource Team. The visit aimed to plan on UNILIA workshop dates and logistics.

​Sexual and Reproductive Health Teachers’ orientation

On 08th April the YDU Team led by Patricia the SRH Coordinator had an orientation activity with Head teachers and teachers from Chibavi, Zolozolo, Luwinga and Chris Academy on the Sexual and Reproductive Health programme.  Stakeholders from Northern Education Division were also present. Contents of the programme, delivery methods and logistics were discussed. The teachers gave their feedback and input and are welcoming the programme in the new school term which will commence on 28th April, 2025.

Monthly clean-up drive
On April 11th, YDU together with entire Ungweru Team members and students had a clean-up drive from Ungweru premises to Tahnet Fueling Station. The exercise involves collection of plastic and compost waste and it usually takes place on second Friday of every month. Compost and Plastic waste are separated, Compost is later used in Vegetable and Flower gardens at Ungweru.

Luwinga Sexual and Reproductive Health workshop
On 12th April, the SRH Coordinator Patricia and Elizabeth the intern facilitated the first SRH engagement at Luwinga since its development. With an age patronage ranging from 11 to 16 the activity was held at St Augustine Hall. The adolescents were led through sessions on puberty, menstrual hygiene, wet dreams, STIs (transmission and prevention) and reproductive rights. Assisted by teachers and Sunday school teachers the workshop was a success.

University of Livingstonia workshop
On the 12th of April Taonga and Samson from YDU travelled to University of Livingstonia (UNILIA) for a workshop on the Self-Awareness unit with students from the university following introduction of the programme to the university by one of the facilitators and mentor Aaron Mkandawire who is a student there. Students from different religious and cultural backgrounds patronized the workshop and the team received massive support from the CSO patron Mr Gondwe.

World Earth Day
On the 22nd of April, YDU Team led Ungweru Organisation team members and students from Skills Acquisition Unit in commemorating World Earth Day. The event was colored with drama, poetry, dances (with messages of protecting mother earth), environmental art session, a talk on eco-friendly craft and plastic free living, tree planting and pledging on caring for the environment led by the Executive Director Mr Samuel Phiri.

Outreach to Likoma Island
One of our Resource Team Persons, Taonga Gondwe travelled to Likoma Island on 22nd of April for SELL Programme overview presentation at the Anglican Church. This presentation follows interest and invitation from the Island after Rumphi, Mzuzu, and Nkhata-Bay SELL Anglican volunteers shared their experience with the programme to their counterparts. This visit is timely and crucial as the team is extending its programmes and outreach and is already planning for the coming year.

Wisdom of traditions stepdown workshops
On 26th of April, the YDU Team had stepdown workshops with Kaning’ina, Chibavi and Luwinga Anglican communities of Mzuzu City on the unit of Wisdom of Traditions of the SELL Manual. The workshop offered young adults with knowledge and importance of their traditions.
