Briquette Making: Turning Waste into Opportunity
On March 6th, the YDU facilitated a hands-on briquette-making exercise with our Tailoring and Fashion Designing students. This innovative project is part of our efforts to address waste management by creatively reusing notebook paper. The students enthusiastically participated, taking part in the second stage of prototyping for this sustainable initiative.
On March 18th, the YDU team had the honor of hosting visitors from a local mushroom farm. The discussion focused on how our "Care for the Earth" unit aligns with their climate-smart agricultural practices. This meeting opened the door for potential collaboration aimed at promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
On March 21st, YDU, along with the entire Ungweru Team, participated in a thorough clean-up drive, extending from our premises to the Tahnet Fueling Station. The initiative collected both plastic and compostable waste, contributing to a cleaner community and sustainable garden projects at Ungweru. This drive, which normally takes place on the second Friday of each month, emphasizes our commitment to environmental stewardship.
On March 25th, we had a productive meeting with Fr. Fredrick Chacha of the St. Patrick’s Missionary Society. The discussion centered around the potential rollout of the SELL Programme in the Dowa Deanery, located in central Malawi. This partnership holds promising potential for expanding our impact in the region.
