The SELL Programme has six units, during the first provincial training which took place in Jos last year June, the participants received a training on the first 2 units which are; Personal Growth and Leadership. This time around, we hope to train participants on the Spirituality and Peace Building units of the SELL Programme.

A HISTORICAL WEEKEND FOR SELL PROGRAMME

2/7/2011

Last weekend, the Sharing Education and Learning for Life SELL Programme, experienced multiple workshops which we found it to be very significant because it was the first of its kind.

Let’s have a look at what happened in these workshops one after the other. In our last update, I informed you that there was going to be a Renewal/Refresher training organised by the SELL Resource team. The Refresher was organised for the first group of trainees of the SELL programme. The training commenced on Thursday evening shortly after the participants arrived. There were 9 participants in all. Leo, Jonathan, Moses and I were the facilitators, Fr. Tommy of the Saint Patricks Missionary Society SPMS was also present to assist with facilitating the refresher programme and he offered the group his wealth of experience on facilitation. The training was not only for the participants but it was designed to refresh both participants and facilitators, with the aim, “to build our capacity as facilitators of the SELL

Programme Nigeria through feedback from all our experiences”.

The high point of the training was when an image of a tree called the SELL Tree was used to gather our vision, and also the effects of the programme on our teaming recipients in Nigeria. The workshop formally closed on Sunday morning with prayer as organised by the group.

While the refresher training was going on, the Kumasi SELL Team in Ghana was having a workshop with the students of SMA High School on the Leadership unit of SELL programme. Those who facilitated the workshop at Kumasi, Ghana were Constance, Julie, Wisdom and Eugene, supported by Manaf, Nyass, Amoah and Augustine all of the Team, and they had 32 participants.

The third SELL workshop that took place was at Taraba state in Nigeria. It was organised by the Jalingo SELL Team on the Leadership unit of the SELL programme. According to Victor kamai, one of the Jalingo facilitators of the SELL programme, the workshop took place at Bakin Kogi a village in Taraba state with participants numbered up to 30.

It may fascinate you to know that 2 of the  3 SELL workshops that were delivered last week were facilitated by the SELL facilitators in training. We on the SELL Resource Team are happy about this and want to congratulate the SELL trainees in Kumasi, Ghana and Jalingo, in Nigeria for this very good work and for also being part of this history made.

On Wednesday, 2nd February 2011, was the feast of presentation of the child Jesus at the temple. This is an annual feast celebrated by Catholic faithful the world over, it normally comes 40 days after the birth of Jesus Christ (Christmas). Those in the religious life of the Catholic faith find this day very special. This is because it is a day for them to renew their vows. The situation was not different for the religious life of the Catholic faith in Bauchi diocese, those in the town gathered for a Mass celebrated by Leo at the Youth Formation Centre. Leo was not alone with the religious women but was with Frs. Kisabuli and Likoko, all priest of the Saint Patrick’s missionary Society SPMS who are residing and doing their pastoral work at Miya town of Bauchi state, Nigeria. Other members of the SELL Resource Team also joined in for the Mass celebration. The mass ended around 1.30pm and all had a superb lunch together before every one departed.

This Thursday being the 3rd of February, 2011 was tagged the SELL Resource Team input day.

The input was given by Moses, Jonathan and I. And it was on Capacitar (living in wellness), Facilitation and Alternative to Violence Programme AVP. The givers of these input got their insights and learning to share with others from the training they received on these areas at various levels. People who attended were some of the Bauchi SELL trainees, the 2 SPMS priest at Miya, 2 members of the Bauchi caritas magazine and the other SELL Resource Team members. The input lasted for four and a half hours against the 3hours that it was slated for in the schema, this was due to the discussions it drew as most members of the group confessed that the issues were very vital to them. They also commended the efforts of the SELL Resource Team for their generosity to share these great insights with them.

Upcoming event.

As from the 11th to 20th February 2011, the SELL programme in Nigeria will be having her 2nd provincial training. This training is scheduled to take place at the Youth Formation Centre in Bauchi. The training was formally going to take place in Jos but because of the recent tension in Jos town and environs. Participant expressed their fears of travelling into Jos, which was why the training was brought to Bauchi.

Thank you for being with us today. Stay back and enjoy our many photos

A LIFE GIVING WORKSHOP AT KAFIN TAFAWA, BAUCHI STATE NIGERIA

2/3/2011

Hello dear friends. Hope things are well with you? I feel happy to meet you again this week with the Sharing Education and Learning for Life (SELL) updates

Last weekend was not so congested for us on the SELL Resource Team because only one Team was out to give a workshop on the Personal Growth at Kafin Tafawa a suburb of Bauchi town. The workshop which was delivered by 2 members of the SELL Team, Mary and Moses was outstanding because they had it for 3 days (Friday – Sunday) ordinarily it was suppose to be a 2day affair, the facilitators were motivated by the curiosity of the participants and decided to take the participants carefully through the session of the Personal Growth unit. 33 young adults attended the workshop and from their workshop evaluation most of them said that they hope to see the Team again very soon for another unit of the SELL programme and some said they have never attended a life giving workshop as this before.

Last week, Moses informed you of the first up – coming SELL Resource Team life check-in for 2011. I am glad to inform you that it held on Wednesday 26th of January. It was indeed a wonderful experience and Leo directed it.  The style he used to facilitate the team life check-in was spectacular. We all found it very helpful and the process that was used will help us understand each other more even though we have worked together for long.

Mary the newest member of the team and Fr. Tommy Hayden a priest of Saint Patrick’s Missionary Society and also a SELL Team member by extension attended the Team life check-in. They said they feel it will help build the team relationship wise.

Also in this week, the 1st set of the SELL facilitators in training that started the SELL training in April 2009 will come together at our centre for a Renewal Training. The training will start on Thursday the 27th of January and end on Sunday 30th January 2011. We pray that God will grant all the participants journey mercy as they travel to come for the renewal.

On behalf of the team I sincerely wish to apologize for our inability to post last week’s workshop photos on the blog this was due to some technical faults beyond us however we are working to have them posted to the blog soonest.

Upcoming events

The SELL Team has organized to give some input to the youth stakeholders and the Bauchi SELL Team on the training we received on Capacitar, Alternative to Violence and Facilitators Training. The input will take place on Wednesday the 3rd of February 2011. We shall give you details of these issues in our subsequent edition.

You can send your comments to the programme’s email on sharingedlearning4life@yahoo.co.uk. Stay with us.
