October news

Hi our dear reader.  Moses informed you last week on our upcoming events, here am i to update you on how it happened and is still happening.

Shuaibu one of our Muslim facilitator in training, embarked on a voluntary journey from Jos North, to the Youth Formation Center Bauchi Nigeria, where the SELL Team work from. He visited us last week Friday and gave us support on Islamic input. We the Sharing Education and Learning for Life Team appreciate his kind gesture.

Jonathan and Tommy Hayden have started work on the 10th October with a Community of young adults at Ijebu- Mushin, Ogun State Nigeria. They are exploring issues around Leadership, Human Development and Spirituality. It’s a weeklong activities. We wish the duo a nice working time and journey mercies as they will return.

On the 11th 12th and 13th October 2011. Moses, Leo and I worked with 98 senior students on life choice and 16 prefects of Immaculate Conception Secondary School Bauchi on Foundation for Leadership. With the 98 students, we reflected on issues that are very important in making choices such as Self Awareness, choosing ones friends and Sex Education. While with the prefects we both took a cursory look at  these stepping stones for effective Leadership  tagged “The  five C’s of Leadership: Communication, Clear understanding of one’s self,  Cooperation,  Courage and Control of Emotions.

From the evaluation, the students gathered that Leadership involves so many sacrifices, it involves consultation not imposing one’s decision, taking responsibility, we choose our friends not our friends choosing us. In conclusion Emmanuel one of the prefects said,“We are equipped for the future Challenges.” Nonye the Head Girl said, “I feel sad for people living with HIV and AIDS. Prevention is better than cure”

What am I forgetting? O yes, Moses our team member has named his son OFARA, meaning “God answers prayer” . Indeed Moses and Ann’s prayer were answered by the gift of Ofara. May he grow to be a blessing to the society.

UPCOMING EVENTS

ANOTHER BABY FACILITATOR IS ADDED TO THE SELL FAMILY

10/2/2011

The year has been one of lots of joy and success for the Sharing Education and Learning for Life (SELL) Team. But nothing brings more joy than the birth of a new life, in all its innocence into the world. And to have two of such joys in a year is a real blessing. Well the SELL Family filed with blessings and the joy as we are still in the euphoria of welcoming Moses’ Baby (name to be announced soon) and Maria’s Baby Karsuk to the world and to the SELL Family.

This week has been busy in the office for the SELL Resource Team. It is coming to the end of the year and it is time to start compiling and putting together documents of the impact the programme is having in the lives of the young people and the communities for end of year reports to our beneficiaries and to the benefactors to ensure accountability.

It is our usual practice to have a team building and evaluation of the year at this time of the year. As I informed us last week this year the team building and evaluation shall be taking place with a very experienced resource person in Kaduna North western Nigeria. Her name is Rita and she has accompanied the SELL Resource Team through many team building, visioning, evaluation and planning exercises. We look forward to meeting her again this year.

Once again we the SELL Family says welcome to our baby facilitators.  Join us here next week for more update on our activities. We hope to give you the name of the newest member of the SELL Family then.

Jonathan

For the SELL Team.
