- The first workshop was a step down after their training in March this year. It was at the Nigerian Prison Service, Shendam division on the 24th June, 2014. The initial plan was to run the programme for the Clients (Prison inmates), but in a bit to protect their integrity, the prison authorities said the workshop should be done with the staff instead. In the cause of the work, some of the Clients joined in, but photos were not taken. The workshop which was on the Self Awareness unit of SELL, recorded 9 females and 29 males. Dajan a mentor of SELL from that area who was at the workshop said the session on reclaiming Self – Worth and in-depth exploration of one’s self was imperative to the participants. The authorities expressed their appreciation to the team and said they will work with them to ensure that SELL becomes a State programme as far as the Prison organization is concerned.
- The SELL Programme with the youths of Shishiri area of Langtang was next, they had the workshop on 27th June, 2014. Langtang is equally a big town as Shendam and there are SELL trainees there as well, the team anchored the Self Awareness unit of SELL with a group of youths from that area. 29 young people were in attendance, 13 of whom were females.
It feels good to announce to you that the Shendam trainees recently took their third and fourth training combined. Of the six trainings they are expected to take to complete the circle of training in the units of the programme, the have done four and are left with two trainings which will hopefully be completed next year. The training took place on the 10th to 15th September 2014 and 15 people took part in it. The two units that were explored were Peace Building and the Justice units of the SELL Programme. During the training, they did a community planning and came up with strategies on how to better reach the young people of their communities. The SELL Resource Team wishes the Shendam community team all the best as they execute those plans. On our part, we shall bring to you our reader more updates of the SELL Programme, so stay with it.
