A SUMMARY OF FIVE SELL WORKSHOPS THAT HELD SO FAR IN 2015

2/20/2015

Following our last blog, you were informed that so far in this year, five SELL workshops have taken place, ordinarily with SELL, by this time of every year we may have recorded up to ten or more Programmes delivered. The fewer workshops are as a result of the instability in the political realm in Nigeria.  With the current change in date of the national elections in Nigeria, so many programs in the country are being affected; most SELL Programmes/events were going to start after the election which was earlier scheduled to take place in February 2015, now shifted to March 2015.  Some events are still not clear until the elections are done and dusted. Nigerians are anxious because of the threatened security challenge being experience in the Country. Despite these uncertainties, SELL is still doing her best with supporting her volunteers to reach out to many young people as the need for her work in the area of peace building becomes imperative at this point in time.

Below is a run-down of the programme that was done in this year already;

The first workshop for this year was the programme with the National Youth Service Corp members in Bauchi state, SERVICOM division. These young men and women came in two times this year on the following dates; 16th and 29th January, 2015. In the two different dates 17 and 18 persons respectively were in attendance.

From the Jalingo Community Team in Taraba State Nigeria, the team delivered two workshops in the month of January 2015; 25th and 29th. The first was in Mayo Dasa town  and the unit explored was the community building unit of SELL. The second was with youths of St. Patrick’s Parish Kona Jalingo and the Leadership unit was shared. 28 and 17 young people were reached respectively.

The SELL Facilitators in Bauchi also delivered the Leadership Unit of SELL in an interactive forum with a group of youths in wuntin Dada community of Bauchi town.

These five programmes so far are spirit lifting for us at the Resource Team. Did I not say in my first blog for this year that the year 2015 seems promising; we look forward to having more young persons experience the SELL Programme this year.

UPCOMING PROGRAMMES

SELL Community Leaders from Plateau State and North East States in Nigeria are convening at our office in Bauchi for a Leaders meeting. This meeting will be the first for this year, it is usually Bi annual, details of how it went will be shared with you subsequently.

In the coming week the SELL Resource Team is going to train the  facilitators in training for Bauchi/Gombe Community Team. The training will be there 4th and 5th combined. Date is on the 24th-29th .

See you again soon.

Hello Friends, we want to introduce to you the latest couple in SELL; John Jiderre and his bride; Happiness. Their wedding was on Friday 30th January 2015. John is a member of the SELL Resource Team responsible for Hausa coordination of the SELL Programme, we wish them a happy married life.

On a different note, the Team Building of the SELL Resource team has come and gone; it started on the 22nd and ended 23rd January, 2015. The facilitator that guided the process was Rev. Sister Rita Schwartzenberger, who is the director of Hope for the Village Child; a Non Governmental Organization in Kaduna State, Nigeria. Apart from the Resource team Members, also present at the Team Building were two members of the Saint Patrick’s Society (SPS). The presence of SPS at the gathering was to concretize on our partnership terms as well as offer us expertise guidance on how to address some pertinent challenging concerns.

So far in this year, five SELL Programmes have taken place, details will be shared with you in our next blog.

Once more, make the Best of this month, stay out of trouble and keep being the agent of transformation.

To all our Nigerian allies, ensure that you vote for the right persons into Government positions as we are   few weeks away from the General elections.

See you again soon.

Maria Dagogot,

Communication Desk, SELL.
