The Ignition

By Charles Polok

Like a hefty giant
SELL beckons

Arise oh Universe
Arise oh citizens of the Human race
Gather your thoughts

In response to the needs of the Universe,
Gather seeds of love,
Plant stems of Unity
To weed out the greed of hate

Young and Old
Male and Female alike
Harken to the call from the distant voices
In hush tones you are given choices

Haul apart the oxen of selfishness
To knit a happy Community of Patriots

Like Paulo Freire
We'll Partner as Friends
To tap from the bounty of human knowledge
And harness from the fountain of Volunteerism
So that the Young and Old are Mobilized

Mobilized to be informed
Informed to transform
And transformed to liberate

SELL is blowing a new air of Change
From the mountain tops of Taraba
To the Plain Hills of the Plateau
And to the Plains and Valleys of Northern Ghana
Through the Fine Deserts of Maiduguri

SELL Ignites the Consciousness of human needs

And together we say:
Think and Choose

In light of the increased Violence and wanton killings perpetuated by violent Extremism groups in Northern Nigeria, and the North East in particular, SELL FOUNDATION NIGERIA has again recorded a milestone in its strategic efforts to foil the tide of radicalization and violent extremism by training community volunteers, selected members of the Civil Society Organizations, government and security agencies on Conflict Resolution/Countering violence Extremism.

In a quest to bring stability to our communities, SELL Nigeria through her participatory programme reached out to some selected young adults  in Borno , Yobe  and Jos, Plateau states respectively with the skills on countering Violent extremism. The training aimed at empowering the young people in the above states with the necessary skills and strategies to prevent and counter violent extremism in their community.
The training first began with recollection of past scenarios as well previous trainings which gave participants the opportunity to reflect back on the past training and bring out the areas of strength and its impacts.

During the course of the training, participants reflected on the proliferation of pockets of radicalized groups springing out of the communities as a result of bad governance, unemployment, corruption, poverty, social inequality and adulterated religious teachings which have made it easier for the extremist groups to keep recruiting and radicalizing their followers especially the young people.
