7/7/2011

As Maria informed you in our last week update, the Sharing Education and Learning for Life Programme (SELL) Team is continuing with mentoring of trainees as they deliver the SELL workshop in their local areas.  This is the major work now and it is in progress, with visits to many of the local area Teams.

Last weekend, two workshops were scheduled. One at Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State and the other at Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State, both in Nigeria. Toro workshop was fixed at Jimpi community and was hosted by the youths of Jimpi Catholic Church. The workshop held from Friday evening 1st July to Saturday 2nd July, 2011. It was facilitated by Pius Paul and myself Mary James of Bauchi local Team alongside Moses of the SELL Resource Team who mentored us.

60 participants took part in the reflection on Leadership: 33 were male and 27 of them were female. As a rural community, their response and grasp on the unit was impressive. Part of their challenge was how to accept other peoples’ leadership styles as equally important as theirs’, make effective use of their own leadership style and communicate effectively as it is a vital tool in leadership.  The workshop was delivered in local language (Hausa), which is the most common language of that community.

On the 1st July, 2011 Jonathan of the SELL Resource Team drove to Shendam town. The journey is about two hours thirty minutes away from Bauchi, where the SELL Team work from. Unfortunately, the workshop did not hold due to the poor turnout of participants. He returned the next day, 2nd of July 2011 which was his birthday.  Members of the SELL Resource Team are wishing Jonathan very many happy returns!

On Tuesday the 5th July, 2011 Leo attended sensitization meeting of Inter-faith council of Muslim and Christian women group in Kaduna. He got an invitation to attend the meeting from the Director of the programme, Sr. Kathleen MCGarvey who is an ally of the SELL Programme.
Upcoming workshop

0n the 8th July 2011, Moses shall be travelling to Kaduna to meet with Leo. The duo are going to deliver a Peace Building workshop. They will be working with young adults of ungwan Boro Community in Kaduna state.

On that same day, Jonathan and I will be travelling to Taraba state, Nigeria where we will be mentoring the SELL local team in Jalingo to deliver workshop to the young adults of Zing Community.

We wish all save journey and good luck with the workshops.

Mary James
For the SELL Team.
