FIRST HAUSA WORKSHOP, AFTER THE FACILITATORS TRAINING

Let me begin on behalf of the SELL Foundation to wish happy ongoing Eid el-Fitr celebration to all our Muslim Allies, hope this year’s celebration was worthwhile.

In this edition, am happy to announce to you that the first Hausa workshop by the SELL Hausa Trainees took place last weekend.

The Workshop took place on the 17th – 18th July at Tafawa Balewa Town, Bauchi State, North-East Nigeria. ‘It was indeed workshop that one will not forget its experience any time soon’ says John Jiderre, the SELL Hausa Coordinator. John went there to mentor and offer support to the two facilitators of the Hausa Team in Tafawa Balewa; Yohanna Christopher and Godfriend Simon.

When asked what was intriguing about the workshop, John said the high turnout of participants to the workshop was surprising; knowing well that recently the town was invaded by the radical Islamic sect; Boko Haram. The effect of the attack was that Youth don’t come out for functions; rather they stay at home and guard their town. Some people out of fear and for their safety have moved out of the town to safer abodes, because the town keeps getting messages of threats of future attacks by the sect.

Speaking about the number, there were 45 participants and a balanced spread on the Gender, (22 female and 23 Male).

Another aspect of the work that was thrilling was the commitment of time. The people of Tafawa Balewa are mostly farmers and to get them attend programmes during the raining season will take only the grace of God. And I think the grace of God was in full manifest last weekend because John reported that they were consistent in attendance for the two days. The young people contributed so well during the ‘Sashin Ganewa da Kaina’ (Self Awareness Unit) of the SELL Programme.

We hope this will be a nice pace setter for the other teams. We also wish them well as they plan and hold their workshops in the various communities.

Finally, we wish you our esteem reader the very best of this week. Stay with us on this page, see you soon.

Maria Dagogot,                         Communication Desk, SELL.
