Happy New Month, Friends and Family! We hope you are keeping well. We come your way once again with updates on our activities on the field with our volunteers. It is always a pleasure to share with you what we are doing.
September begun with the Resource Team responding to another invitation into the Wa zone to support the young adults of one of the local communities with the Leadership Unit of the SELL Programme. The Wa zone is the next area the team hopes to reach with the programme. This invitation came from a missionary who had heard of the work of the SELL Programme going on in Tamale and Navrongo Bolgatanga zones and how it is making a positive impact on the youth. The Resource Team as always was happy and ready to be there to serve the community. On the day of the workshop, a total of forty – one (41) young adults between the ages of 19 – 33 were present, twenty – three (23) young ladies and eighteen (18) young men. The participants were happy and appreciated the Team for coming to support them. Some expressed their joy on how using the animal pictures to identify their leadership style have been of great help to them. In their sharing, they mentioned that the Programme had come at the right time when they had just elected new youth leaders and they believed that the knowledge acquired will help them to begin with good vision. The Resource Team appreciates Mario and his colleagues for the invitation and we hope to keep the relationship to support many others.
In our last update, we shared with you that we were preparing for the second round of training for the Nav/Bolga Zone. The training took place from the 14th – 17th September at the Farmers’ Training Centre, Pusu Namoong. The team was very happy to see the thirty – nine (39) young adults in training, coming in again to go through another exploration. The Leadership Unit was the focus of this training as it was done for the Tamale Zone. The volunteers in this zone also shared their field experiences with one another, the successes, the challenges and the best way forward. They also went through sessions that could help them build their capacities as facilitators. In the evaluation, the volunteers expressed their readiness to go back into their community to continue with sharing with their peers with the Resource Team coming to mentor them.
The teams in Tamale have already started with facilitating the leadership unit in their local communities. In the month of September, they were able to facilitate workshops in four different communities. The communities were; Savelugu, Holy Cross, Nyankpala and Sacred Heart.
As the work continues to grow, we have identified some very good volunteers who could further go through a training to become mentors or support persons on the field. The Mentoring training is scheduled for November 24th – 26th, 2017. We hope to give you more updates on that.
As part of our outreach to tertiary institutions, the team was also at the University Of Development Studies (UDS), Navrongo Campus in the last weekend of September to continue with its cycles of workshops for the students. This was the third time the Team has been to the school. The students in previous workshops had gone through the Self Awareness Unit and the Community Building Unit. They enjoyed sharing on the Leadership Unit this time.
We appreciate your support in diverse ways as friends and family of the SELL Programme.
Best wishes for the month of October.
SELL Resource Team, Ghana.
