Continuing from where I stopped in my last blog, the following programmes of the Sharing Education and learning for Life (SELL), Foundation also took place:
  • Two Trainees from Yola Community; Patience and MariaRichard, delivered the Leadership unit of SELL at Numan town, Adamawa State, Nigeria on the 24- 25th June, 2013.  17 participants came for the programme 7 of whom were female.
  • The Yola Community Trainees again delivered two different workshops; one at Yola Town and the other at Ganye local Government town. The workshop at Yola town recorded 22 participants and it held on the 24 -25th July, 2012, while the Ganye workshop was done on the 6 – 7th July, 2013 and had 8 Participants. The unit of the SELL Programme that was delivered in both places was the Leadership Unit. According to the Facilitators that lead the workshop at Ganye, the reason for the low turnout of participants was due to the attack by the radical Islamic sect; Boko Haram in Ganye Town that happened prior to the date of the SELL Programme there. As a result, people were afraid to gather for whatever programmes, so as not to become victims in case of any further attack. The facilitators also expressed their need to receiving SELL training on the Peace Building Unit, so as to share it with other young people of their community. This they think will help clear the mind set the youth may be having on reprisal attack, each time there is an attack. They were reassured by the SELL Resource Team that all six units of SELL have a focus on Peace Building that is why the programme is called ‘A peace building programme for young adults’.

  • From Jos Community; Grace, Beji, Hilda, Ovey and Ritmwa, organised  and delivered the Leadership Unit of SELL to the Youth Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Jos Chapter. It was an ecumenical group, as a result, the facilitators got invitation by the various church bodies that make up the association to come and deliver the programme for their youth. According to them, the SELL Programme is a very vital programme that every young adult of this generation should have a taste, so as to shape their lives as well as cause transformation. 54 participants (38 male and 16 female) took part in the workshop.
  • From the Resource room of the SELL Foundation, the second mentoring training for Mentors of the SELL programme took place from the 11th -14th July, 2013, at the Youth Formation Centre, Bauchi, Nigeria. The training is in line with the SELL foundation aim to better serve the numerous volunteers on the field; by supporting them as well as offering appropriate feedback. 8 mentees took part in this second training.
Thanks for staying with us. In our next blog; you will be reading about SELL Programmes that were delivered by the SELL Resource Team, till then.
