Smokeless Briquettes: A Sustainable Cooking Solution
In regions where the majority of households rely on charcoal for cooking, deforestation and air pollution become major environmental issues. Understanding the pressing need to address these challenges, SELL Foundation initiated a groundbreaking program to promote the production and use of non-smoking briquettes among local communities.
This initiative is particularly crucial for those who cannot afford cooking gas and depend on charcoal obtained from tree cutting.
The introduction of non-smoking briquettes represents a sustainable alternative to traditional charcoal, as they not only reduce the demand for charcoal but also mitigate the health hazards associated with indoor air pollution.
SELL CONDUCTS TRAINING ON POLICY INFLUENCE AND IMPLEMENTATION IN JOS, PLATEAU STATE
In an effort to bridge the gap between policy influence and implementation, SELL Foundation Nigeria conducted training for its volunteers, members of Civil Society Organization, Community youth groups and Religious in Jos, Plateau State. The training aims to empower them with the necessary skills on policy influence and implementation. The training which took place on the 22nd-23rd November, 2023 also seeks to address the following objectives;
- Equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of policy landscape at National and local levels
- Develop participants skills in analyzing policies and interpreting their implications for the community and
- Enhance participants with the ability to identify and engage relevant Stakeholders to build effective partnerships.
SELL TRAINS WOMEN ON CHILD SAFEGUARDING, ANIMAL REARING/BRIQUETTE MAKING
Recognizing the critical role that women play in the care and protection of Children, SELL trained women on Child safeguarding and Protection, Animal Rearing and the production of Briquette. The training aimed to empower women with knowledge required for effective child safeguarding, rearing of Animals as well as briquette production which will also serve as means economic empowerment.
The training brought together women from different groups and took place at Sacred Heart Pastoral Centre, Jos on the 24th November, 2023.
SELL CONDUCT LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS
On the 11th December, 2023 SELL Resource team were at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Bauchi where they facilitated a leadership workshop for the students.
The workshop aims to equip the students with essential skills and qualities for effective leadership.
Sessions covered during the workshop were Mind Map, effective communication, Encouraging participation, teamwork, and qualities of a leader.
SELL PAYS ADVOCACY VISIT TO STAKEHOLDERS IN SHENDAM, PLATEAU STATE
On the 5th December, 2023 the SELL team paid an advocacy visit to some stakeholders in their offices in Shendam Local Government of Plateau State. Some of the offices visited were the Nigerian Civil Defence (NCDC), Nigerian Correctional Centre, National Orientation Agency (NOA), and Social Welfare Unit.
Speaking during the visit, the SELL team applauds the agencies for their role in Educating, safeguarding, and protecting citizens, particularly in Shendam Local Government.
After fruitful discussions, the above agencies also commend SELL for the visit and emphasized the significance of continued collaborations in addressing present-day challenges and the desire to achieving sustainable community development.
